Margao: Brazilian striker Marcos Pereira scored twice for Vasco to beat Indian Bank 2-1 in a National Football League match at the Nehru Stadium Wednesday.
After Indian Bank’s Sri Lankan striker Kasun Nadika Jayasuriya neutralised Pereira’s early strike, the Brazilian again scored in the 35th minute to ensure the victory.
Vasco shot into the lead in the second minute when medio Sushant Mathew squeezed his way into the box from the right and essayed a pass to unmarked Pereira who slotted the ball in.
The bankmen got the equaliser from a counter-attack in the 15th minute. A Shabbir Pasha pass found Jayarsuriya whose chip from the top box took a wicked deflection off a defender and beat the ’keeper Ramos on the far post.
HAL beat JCT
Kyrgysztan import Raja Baliev Nurlan scored an opportunistic goal to ensure a 1-0 victory for Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) against JCT.
Nurlan bulged the net from close range after JCT ’keeper Arvind Kumar failed to collect a powerful shot from Dayanand in the 24th minute.
With this win HAL are now on four points from four games while JCT languish at one.
JCT strikers’ poor finishing let them down.
