Calcutta, Nov. 29: State BJP president Tathagatha Roy today alleged that he and some of his party colleagues had received letters from Islamic fundamentalists asking them to “embrace Islam or be axed”.
Roy showed news persons the letters from Simi (the Students’ Islamic Movement of India), al Qaida and al Farhan at the BJP’s Central Calcutta office. He said he has brought the matter to the notice of the deputy commissioner of police, detective department, Somen Mitra.
“The letters have threatened me, (state BJP) vice-president P.D. Chitlangia and a host of other leaders with dire consequences. This is something serious and we have informed our central leaders,” said Roy.
BJP leaders later said a sub-inspector from Lal Bazar visited the party office and questioned Roy and a few others. Mitra said he was looking into the matter.
