Troubled voyage across river
The motorised country boats that ply between Belur Math and Dakshineswar, take on more people than is their capacity. Neither are they well-maintained, leading to cracks on the sides. There is a high risk of the boats capsizing, especially during the rains or high tide. The authorities should look into the condition of the boats. Spaced out In these days of acute housing crisis, getting a foothold in Calcutta is difficult, especially for students from the districts. Earlier, these students would stay in college hostels or in accomodations provided by charitable institutes. Economic compulsions have forced these institutions to abandon the facilities.
