One-stroke lead for Mukesh

Calcutta: Mukesh Kumar carded a brilliant six-under, 64 to take a one-stroke lead with a total of 130 on Wednesday, the halfway stage of the Royal Challenge Grand Prix being played at the Tollygunge Club here.

The second leg of the Royal Challenge Grand Prix for the 2002-03 season, being played at the par-70 course has a total purse of Rs 8 lakhs.

Defending champion Rafiq Ali came second with a four-under, 66, taking his total to nine-under, 131 for the tournament.

A further stroke behind, Amritinder Singh is placed third after he carded a 65, to take his overall total to eight-under, 132.

Local golfer and overnight leader Uttam Singh Mundy slipped to joint third position with Meerutís Digvijay Singh. They are tied at seven-under-par. Mundy had an unsatisfactory 69, consisting of three birdies and two bogies. Digvijay, who carded a 65 to improve his standing after a first round was six-under walking down the last but a bogey on the par-three 18th, marred his score.
