Three more meet records

Three more meet records tumbled on a gold-less day for Calcutta University in the all-India inter-university aquatic championships at Subhas Sarobar on Friday. Two silver and one bronze medal were all the hosts collected on Day III. Joydev Shukla of Gujarat bettered Pankaj Rathiís mark of 5.08:22 by clocking 5.05:85 in the menís 400m individual medley, while Maharashtra Universityís N.P. Yashaswini scored 300.10 points in womenís high board diving to break the previous record of 284.60 set by G.B. Shilpa.

The third record to fall was in womenís 4x100m freestyle relay, where the Madras University swimmers broke Calicutís mark of 4.01:77 by finishing in 4.00:79.

The Calcutta University waterpolo team reached the semi-finals with a 21-1 win over Barkatullah University.

IOC complete title-sweep

Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) won all six titles at the 10th PSCB inter-unit carrom competition, which concluded at the Tollygunge Club on Friday.

In last-day action, Yogesh Pardesi won the menís title beating Ramesh Babu, while Madhuri Taishette overcame P. Thangamalar for the womenís crown.

The IOC pair of Pardesi and K. Ramesh Babu won the menís doubles final.

Vijay Sports win

The Vijay Sports under-20 and under-14 teams have beaten their counterparts from Ramakant Achrekar Academy on their tour of Mumbai.

According to information received here, the under-20 team won by five wickets, while the under-14 boys were victors by eight wickets. Soumya Tafadar of the under-20 team took four for 29 and Arun Singh of the junior team scored 61.

School soccer

St Paulís beat Islamia Institute 2-0 on the opening day of the inaugural Peerless-CSJC inter-school football meet at the Scottish Church Collegiate School ground. Kallol Pal and Raja Pal scored. The meet was formally inaugurated at Belgharia Friday afternoon.
