New Delhi, Oct. 18: The Centre is yet to formulate the rules to allow foreign direct invesment in news businesses in the print media despite the Cabinet approving the policy in June.
Union information and broadcasting minister Sushma Swaraj said here today that the draft guidelines to allow FDI in non-news, non-current affairs businesses in the print media have been prepared.
They will be examined by an inter-ministerial committee next week.
Swaraj’s ministry is still in the process of drafting the rules for the news sector. She said this was more complicated and was, therefore, time-consuming. No time limit has been set for the rules to be framed but Swaraj said they would be drafted “soon”.
