Thrissur: Deepak Kumar Singh of Police set a national record in 200m breaststroke as Karnataka regained the overall championship with 258 points in the 56th senior national aquatic championship which concluded Sunday.
The 21-year-old beat his own record of 2:28.32 seconds by clocking 2:27.28. B. Vinay of Police took the silver at 2:29.20 and Anil of Haryana the bronze at 2:35.41.
Deepak had set national records in 50m and 100m breaststroke in the competiton.
Bengalís Amrapali Das Gupta claimed the 100m freestyle silver clocking 1:03.62 seconds. C. Subha of Karnataka (1:03.23) and statemate Praditha (1:04.49) got the gold and bronze, respectively.
The hattrick of national records earned Deepak the Best Swimmer title. Karnatakaís Ambica Iyengar, who bagged five individual titles, was adjudged best in the womenís section.
The Police team, which had won the overall title at the last edition of the meet in Calcutta, finished second with 212 points.
