Bijen for Dempo

East Bengal striker Bijen Singh has decided to play for the Goa club Dempo this season. He has applied for the inter-state transfer to play in the Goa outfit. Meanwhile, veteran East Bengal midfielder Tushar Rakshit withdrew in favour of the glamour outfit.

Meanwhile, it was learnt that Bhaichung Bhutia, the star striker, has asked the Mohun Bagan authorities to sign Somatai Shaiza along with him.

Women�s league

The semi-final line-up for the women�s league was decided on Wednesday with Mohun Bagan, East Bengal, Income Tax and Nabajanma Sangha making the last four stage. Bagan will play Income Tax in the first semi-final on June 1, East Bengal play Nabajanma on June 3, with the final slated for June 6.

NCA team

The 12-member East zone National Cricket Academy team for the inter-NCA tournament starting June 5 was announced Wednesday. Two other players were selected for the Combined NCA side.

Mohammedan Sporting won two of their matches in the under-13 and under-15 category of the All India Pepsi Trophy played at Bangalore. In the under-13 category, Mohammedan Sporting edged out Arshad Ayub CA by one wicket, Md. Sahid being the highest scorer with 60.

In the under-15 category, Himadri Pal�s unbeaten 72 helped the Calcutta team down Frank Anthony Public School by 53 runs. However, in the under-17 division, Mohammedan Sporting went down to MJWSC by one wicket.

YMCA snooker

Intikhab Ahmed beat Rakesh Gupta 3-0 in the semi-final of the YMCA first division snooker championship held at the Chowringhee Branch. In the second semi-final of the tournament that had started on May 23, Sanjiv Sahai and Peter Periwal will lock horns.

Volleyball�s best

Sariful Haq of Port Trust and Piyali Roy of Santoshpur Unnayan Samity were selected as the best volleyball players of the year for 2001-02 by Volleyball Veterans Club. The awards will be given away on Thursday.

School rowing

G.D. Birla, St. James, M.P. Birla A and Julien Day School won on the first day of the BRC students� rowing meet organised by the Bengal rowing Club.
