BJP national president J.P. Nadda on Sunday reaffirmed the saffron strategy to use Sandeshkhali as the principal poll plank in Bengal as he launched an attack on the Mamata Banerjee government for being a "terrorist sympathiser".

Nadda alleged that the Bengal government was spreading "anarchy" and accused the chief minister of preferring a Union government that is “soft on terrorism”.

Speaking at an election rally in Behrampore, Nadda said: “We always speak about forming a strong government, but unfortunately Mamata Banerjee wants a helpless government."

"She prefers a government that believes in corruption, extortion, appeasement, and discrimination, with a soft corner for terrorists," he claimed.

He also accused Mamata of opposing the CAA because of such “appeasement” that favours "infiltrators”.

“Her government has sympathy for those who terrorise people, grab their land," claimed Nadda.

“Who are these persons that Mamata Banerjee is so eager to protect, and why is she so bent on appeasing them?" he said later at a rally in Nadia’s Bogula.

“The country is pained to see the atrocities on women by Sheikh Shahjahan and his men at Sandeshkhali. But she tried her best, in all possible ways, to save Shahjahan. Does it prove her concern for women? It is unfortunate that despite being a women chief minister, she was least bothered about the existence of the women in Sandeshkhali," he claimed.

Earlier in a video statement, Nadda accused Mamata’s government of spreading “anarchy”. “We have all seen how under the Mamata Banerjee government, miscreants like Sheikh Shahjahan have been posing a threat to the very existence of women at Sandeshkhali. Officials of the probing agencies who went to Sandeshkhali to protect the dignity of women were attacked," said Nadda.

"The CBI recovered three foreign-made revolvers, one used by police, and several rounds of ammunition. NSG commandos had to go to Sandeshkhali to protect people. From this, we can understand how Mamata Banerjee’s government has been spreading anarchy in Bengal," he added.

In Bogula, countering Trinamool’s allegation of denying funds under the rural housing schemes, Nadda alleged that the Bengal government diverted funds and never issued the utilisation certificates while trying to run the scheme in its name to mislead people.
