Disney and PVR Nest Launch’ My City My Parks’ initiative

Disney, an international family entertainment brand and PVR Nest; the CSRarm of PVR Cinemas, the most premium film entertainment company in India; launched a first-of-its-kind initiative ‘My City My Parks’ under Young Expressions today at PVR Cinema, Phoenix Mills, Mumbai. The initiative aims to sensitize children on the issue of depleting urban greenery and highlight the role of parks in their lives. Children are encouraged to be the creative ambassadors and bring out a positive change in the community. The launch event was attended by Bollywood celebrity Abhay Deol and well-known film makers Amole Gupte and Paresh Mokashi.

“Disney Global Community Outreach is committed to inspiring creativity and conservation amongst kids and families by fostering their participation in community welfare initiatives such as the My City My Parks initiative. Together with PVR Nest, we hope to encourage Mumbai’s younger generation to make a difference to their community in a fun and entertaining way”, said K Seshasaye, executive director, Marketing and Distribution, Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures (India).

The “My City My Parks” program will include extensive knowledge sessions comprising talks by eminent expert from Greenpeace, Paryavaran Dakshata Manch, Sanskar India Foundation and United Way of Mumbai; screening of classic Disney animated movie WALL-E and a Theatre Performance by Ashtavinayak Kalavishkar Group along with BB Performing Arts. The knowledge series will be conducted from November 15 to November 23, 2011 at all PVR Cinemas across Mumbai. Over 6000 children from diverse backgrounds including Municipal Schools, Public and Private schools will participate in the program.

All participants attending the sessions will be given an option to pick a project of their choice on the topic of conservation. They will have the option to showcase their work it in the form of a film, photo-journal, murals or a theater performance. Select panel of judges (to be announced at a later stage) will shortlist the top ten projects in each category. The shortlisted participants will get an opportunity to work with renowned film-maker Amole Gupte and Paresh Mokashi as mentors. The finalists will get a chance to showcase their projects at a red carpet premier scheduled in February 2012 at one of the PVR Cinemas in Mumbai.
