Rahul Gandhi on Friday said he was ready for a debate with Narendra Modi but doubted whether the Prime Minister would turn up.

“I am 100 per cent ready for a debate with him. But I know the Prime Minister. He will not come for a debate with me,” Rahul said at a gathering in Lucknow on Friday.

“My party president (Mallikarjun) Khargeji can also do the debate,” he added.

Rahul was here to deliver a speech on the Constitution organised by Samruddha Bharat, a social outfit. During the question-answer session, Rahul claimed that the BJP would win 200-180 seats only.

Rahul said he didn’t have the lust for power. “A stage comes where some people think that they have 15-20 years left and so they should do something good. This is political crystallisation. This clarity has come to my mind and I have decided to do something for 90 per cent of the people of the country,” he said. He defined the 90 per cent as the OBCs, Dalits, tribals and the poor within the upper castes.
