Academy starts with gold medal

Imphal, Aug. 29: National Sports Academy, Imphal, started with a gold medal in the sub-junior event of the 13th sub junior, 18th junior and 19th senior state-level Weightlifting Championship which got under way at SAG Hall, Khuman Lampak today.

Tang Devi of the NSA Imphal, competing in the 44kg sub-junior girls event, lifted 49kg in snatch and 59kg in clean and jerk categories to claim the gold medal while K. Ormila Devi of SAI Utlou took the silver with 44kg in snatch and 53kg in clean and jerk. Quasar of KIYC fetched the bronze with 42kg in snatch and 50kg in clean and jerk.

In the 48kg event, H. Jinarani of WMC bagged the gold with 60kg in snatch and 77kg in clean and jerk.

P. Ganga of SAI Utlou took the silver with 62kg in snatch and 74kg in clean and jerk and S. Bidyarani of SAI RC fetched the bronze with 58kg in snatch and 72kg in clean and jerk.

Ch. Nirmala Devi claimed SAI RCís first gold in the 53kg category, lifting 55kg in snatch and 70kg in clean and jerk. Boby Sociataga of NSA Imphal fetched the silver medal with 47kg in snatch and 55kg in clean and jerk and N. Romita of PRSC Utlou settled for the bronze with 44kg in snatch and 58kg in clean and jerk.

In the 58kg sub-junior category, Kh. Nungshiton of ACWA bagged gold with 66kg in snatch and 86kg in clean and jerk. Y. Shilheinganbi Chanu of SAI Utlou with a lift of 66kg in snatch and 85kg in clean and jerk fetched the silver.

P. Umeshowri of GMC Phubala lifted 51kg in snatch and 62kg in clean and jerk for the bronze.

Football: SAK Yumnam Khunou blanked United Pukhao Sports Association by 2-0 goals in the Imphal East First Division Football League, 2014 played on artificial turf, Khuman Lampak sports complex.
