RG baruah soccer

Guwahati, Aug. 28: Navajyoti Club registered their first victory in the RG Baruah Guwahati Sports Association super division football league edging past Sunrise Athletic Club by a solitary goal at Nehru Stadium here today.

The late 89th minute goal by Clever G. Momin enabled Navajyoti Club to climb up the points tally with a total of four points while Sunrise Athletic Club stand at the bottom with two points.

Clever G. Momin, making his way from the right flank, provided Hari Prasad Gogoi with a pass. However, the latter’s strike from outside the box missed the crossbar by a whisker in the seventh minute.

Sunrise’s Nigerian recruit Ifeanyi Nkenchor made a complete mess of a perfect opportunity to put his side ahead in the 10th minute.

The Navajyoti defence, expecting Nkenchor to be offside, went on to witness the forward moving into the box, but failed to get the better of glovesman Subhajit Barman as his shot headed wide of target.

With the second half kicking off, Sunrise players made repeated inroads but failed to get the required result.

Nkenchor, on having found a fine thorough pass from the midfield, made his way into the box but failed to get the ball past Barman in the 58th minute. His close range attempt went above the crossbar.

The turning point in the match finally arrived late in the 89th minute of play. Ishak Sangma from the right flank provided Clever with a fine pass, which was well utilised by the latter. Clever’s powerfully struck shot hit the crossbar before finding the net.

In the Jibeswar Goswami GSA A Division Football League, Rising Eleven Club handed over a walkover to Gauhati Town Club which ensures their promotion into the GSA Super Division next season.
