Handyman ‘assaults’ woman

Guwahati, Aug. 28: Sewali Das, a female commuter filed an FIR against Motiur, 17, the handyman of a bus for allegedly manhandling her last night.

According to police sources, Sewali had boarded a city bus at Noonmati for Nursery. When the bus reached Nursery bus stop, the driver did not stop the bus for her to get off.

She then had an argument with Motiur, asking him why the bus was not stopped. He, in turn, pushed her and she fell down on the floor of the bus, hurting her face.

Sewali, a resident of Noonmati, filed an FIR against the handyman at Dispur police station late last evening.

The police filed a case of assault against Motiur and seized the city bus bearing the registration number AS01L 0099 at Panjabari today and picked up the handyman along with the driver of the bus.

While the driver was allowed to go after questioning, the police took Motiur into custody.

“The victim had stated in the FIR that she wanted to get down at the Nursery busstop but the bus she was travelling on did not halt at that stoppage, leading to an argument. When she questioned the handyman, he pushed her and she received injuries on her face as she fell,” a police officer at Dispur police station said.

“However, when we questioned the driver and handyman today, they said they had stopped the bus at Nursery busstop but the woman wanted to get down a little ahead of the stop. When the driver did not stop the vehicle again, she shook the handyman from behind and argued. He, in turn, pushed her because of which she fell down. She got down from the bus at Ganeshguri.”
