Ranchi University on Thursday announced dates for its students’ union elections that has been pending since 2007.
The university will be hold indirect elections at the college level on September 26 and the results will be announced the next day followed by an oath-taking ceremony.
At the university level, polls will be held on October 20 at the multipurpose examination hall. Results will be declared on October 21 and the swearing-in ceremony will take place at Senate Hall on November 1.
Ranchi University has 15 constituent and 19 affiliated colleges. According to an official, both at college and varsity level, five persons have to be elected. These are president, vice-president, secretary, joint secretary and treasurer. Those who win at the college levels can contest at the varsity level.
For college-level elections, electoral rolls will be published on September 4, filling of objection can be done on September 9 and inclusion and exclusion into the electoral rolls will be done on September 10. While the final electoral roll will be published on September 11, the list will be submitted the next day.
Interested candidates can file their nominations on September 16 and 17. Those will be scrutinised on September 18. Anyone who wants to withdraw his/her name can do so on September 19. On the same day, the final list of candidates will be published. Poll campaign will end on September 24.
Similarly, proceedings at university level will begin on October 11. Nominations can be filed on October 14 and it will scrutinised on October 15. Withdrawal of nomination and the list of final contestants will published on October 16.
Student bodies have welcomed the move. But parties like NSUI and Jharkhand Chhatra Manch have already threatened to boycott the polls. “Indirect elections will increase the expenses. Thus, we have decided to boycott the polls,” said Kumar Raja, NSUI chairman.
