Guwahati, Aug. 26: Defending champions NF Railway tasted their first defeat in the current edition of the RG Baruah Trophy Guwahati Super League football tournament going down to former champions Assam State Electricity Board (ASEB) SC 1-3 in a fifth round match at first turf of Nehru Stadium here today.
ASEB got the lead in the fourth minute when they were awarded a penalty kick for NF Railway stopper Bijoy Das handling the ball inside the box.
Ramsang Liana made no mistake in converting the kick.
The railmen found the equaliser through a self goal of ASEB defender Biswanath Karmakar who could not stop a header from NF Railway’s Kapil Daimary off a Sibra Narzary flagkick at the goalmouth in the 49th minute.
The powermen got the lead again through a 66th minute goal from skipper Sanjay Boro who tapped home a volley off William Gante from the right flank. Striker Jessy Vanlalmuana made it 3-1 for ASEB, making no mistake in netting a Gangte push from goalmouth in the 89th minute.
A Division League: In the Jibeswar Goswami first division league match at the second turf of the same ground, Sports Authority of India SC held Rajbari AC to a 6-6 draw.
Rajbari found the lead in the second minute through the boot of Amit K, who netted another goal in the 30th minute. The other scorers for Rajbari were Aulat Ali (25th and 38th minutes), Naoba S. (34th minute) and Sajan Singh (71st minute).
For SAI, Biplob Nayak netted three goals in the ninth, 57th and 73rd minutes and Dwijo Raj Boro ruffled the net twice in the 23rd and 31st minutes. Mithinga Narzary found the net once in the 49th minute.
