Tijen sets new air rifle record

Imphal, Aug. 22: K. Tijen Sharma shot his way to a new state record in the peep-sight air rifle event of the 24th All-Manipur Shooting Competition, 2014 held at the shooting range, Khuman Lampak sports complex.

Tijen, representing Imphal East District Rifle Association, came up with 591 points out of 600, eclipsing L. Regan Singhís previous record of 583 points, to create a new state record in the .177 peep sight air rifle 10-metre menís individual event.

S. Binoy Singh of IEDRA with 568 points and M. Amarjit Singh of IWDRA with 564 points bagged the silver and bronze medals.

In the other event of the day, shooter Y. Ghanashyam Singh of IWDRA made a clean strike for two gold medals.

Ghanashyam claimed a gold in the .177 peep sight air rifle 10-metre menís individual event with a score of 385 points while N. Govinda Mayi Singh of IWDRA with 378 points and L. Chaoba Singh of SAI RC with 366 points settled for the silver and bronze medals. Ghanashyam Singh fetched another gold medal in the .177 peep sight air rifle 10-metre youth menís individual event.

The other gold medallists are N. Birendrakishore in the .22 open sight standard rifle prone 50-metre menís individual, G. Shyamkanhai Sharma in the standard pistol 25-metre menís individual event, L. Chaoba Singh in .177 peep sight air rifle 10-metre junior menís individual event, Aksar M.S. Kangujam in the .177 peep sight air rifle 10-metre sub-junior menís individual, Ksh. Fancy Devi in .177 peep sight air rifle 10-metre sub-junior womenís individual event, W. Minakumar in air pistol 10-metre junior menís individual event and Yaikhomba Mutum in the .177 peep sight air rifle 10-metre menís (novices) individual event.
