Guwahati, Aug. 19: Former champions Assam State Electricity Board Sports Club registered a convincing 2-0 victory over Food Corporation of India Sports Club in a match of the RG Baruah Guwahati Sports Association Super Division Football League at the first turf of Nehru Stadium here today.
In a lacklustre first half, the teams failed to produce anything special to break the deadlock, though the powermen, by the virtue of two late goals, kept their hopes alive for a place in the championship round.
Both sides failed to make any inroads till the 35th minute.
The first genuine attack was in the 36th minute with FCI’s Momocha Singh with an attempt from inside the box, which missed the woodwork by inches. On having received a through pass from Kailash Gogoi, Singh’s close range attempt failed to yield the desired result for his side.
On having received a well-measured pass from Sourab Chutiya in the left flank, Momocha Singh with a powerful strike from the edge of the box failed to trouble the ASEB custodian Daoga Brahma as it went over the crossbar by a minimal margin in the 37th minute.
Being awarded a free kick from a few steps outside the box, Momocha Singh’s strike found Rakesh Das whose header went on to miss the target by a whisker in the 40th minute. The first genuine attempt by the powermen came in the 43rd minute with William Gangte deciding to go for the target. On having received a pass from Jessy Vanlalmuana in the left flank, Gangte’s powerful strike from the edge of the box was well saved by the FCI glovesman Bitul Khanikar.
With the referee whistling for the start of the second half, it was the same old saga until the 75th minute.
An unmarked Ramsangliana took full advantage of the situation to put his side up in front in the 75th minute with a powerful strike.
To make things worse for FCI, it was Jessy Vanlalmuana who made no mistake in increasing the lead in the 90th minute. Y. Gopi Singh’s attempt was deflected off Bitul Khanikar only to find Vanlalmuana who found the net with ease.
In the Jibeswar Goswami GSA A Division Football League at ground two, Kamrupa Football Club continued their fine show in the league by getting the better of Rising Eleven Club 2-0. Sankul Rabha broke the deadlock in the additional minutes of the first half while Jibeswar Rabha scored in the 85th minute.
Rajbari Athletic Club will face City Police tomorrow.
