Anomalies in Manipur association election

Imphal, Aug. 19: The fate of the stateís canoers and kayakers in the forthcoming national championship in September hangs in the balance, as infighting has paralysed the normal functioning of the All Manipur Kayaking and Canoeing Association.

The infighting emerged within the association since August last year.

Four founder members had petitioned the Registrar of Societies, Manipur, to rectify the irregularities in the functioning of and cancellation of the managing committee election.

The four members also alleged that the signatures of the 16 members listed in the general body meeting held on June 23 last were forged ones.

The Registrar of Societies, M. Luikham, on July 19 this year had ordered convening of a special general body meeting of the association tomorrow.

The order also noted that the house would comprise only 20 founder members of the association and not 100 members as submitted by former president W. Jyotin Singh.

However, the registrar issued another order on July 25 revoking his earlier one.

He issued another order on July 28 giving cognition to the disputed special general body meeting. Y. Laba, the president of the association, and Th. Indira Devi, a founder member, moved Manipur High Court to keep the order in abeyance.

Justice N. Koteshwar Court admitted the case and ordered that the July 25 order shall remain suspended.
