Aug. 19: Saradha chief Sudipta Sen today told reporters outside a Birbhum court that the group’s abandoned properties across the state were being looted.
“All properties of the Saradha Group are being looted. The Kopai resort was a beautiful place. Look what has happened to it,” Sen said outside Suri court, where he was produced in connection with a case of cheating.
The Saradha chief was remanded in 14 days’ judicial custody.
A visit to the Saradha-owned Kopai resort, built in 2009, revealed that its 24 rooms and cottages did not have furniture, television sets, AC machines and even doors and windows.
Two officials of the central Enforcement Directorate today visited the resort, 6km from Bolpur town, and videotaped the premises.
Residents said two police constables had been deployed to guard the resort round the clock after the Saradha scandal unfolded in May last year. The constables were allegedly withdrawn five months later.
ED officials today spoke to the directors of Future Education and Research, which had hired a section of employees of a Saradha-owned Bengali magazine after it wound up.
