Calcutta Jammu and Kashmir is all set to stage the Federation Cup next season, the All India Football Federation general secretary Kushal Das informed on Monday.
“Next year’s Federation Cup will be held in Jammu and Kashmir, in August,” Das said on the sidelines of the inauguration of East Bengal’s sports cafe lounge.
Das feels team development is more important than organisational aspects when India host the under-17 World Cup in 2017. “I’m not too worried about the organisational aspects. Fifa does show some leniency in requirements.
“I’m more worried about team development. In my opinion, if we can’t form a competitive Indian team for the under-17 World Cup, it will be embarrassing for us. That’s why my focus is more on development of the team, while infrastructure is my next priority.
“We have set up a committee for looking after the infrastructure and Mr Subrata Dutta (one of the AIFF vice-presidents) is heading it. We are also going to involve the state associations,” he said.
