Short Street key accused granted bail

A division bench of Calcutta High Court on Monday granted bail to Parag Majmudar, a promoter and key accused in the 9A Short Street multiple-murder case.

He was arrested on November 13 last year and sent to judicial custody.

Two bouncers died when Mamta Agarwal, who lived and ran a playschool at 9A, and her guards allegedly fired at a gang that had stormed the property early on November 11 in an apparent attempt to evict the residents.

The division bench headed by Pranab Chattopadhyay asked Majmudar to stay away from Short Street till further orders.

Mamta, who faces the murder charge for the death of the two bouncers, had been granted bail on health grounds.

The other accused in the case have also obtained bail.

Majmudar, who had allegedly masterminded the eviction bid, is also an accused in a case related to an assault on Ratan Lal Nahata, an occupant of 9A, and the snatching of his revolver.
