Calcutta, Aug. 18: State BJP president Rahul Sinha today said the party would file a Right to Information appeal seeking to know the source of funds for Mamata Banerjee’s five-day Singapore trip.
“The chief minister’s meeting with the Singapore Prime Minister and industry captains is only for a day. Why was the trip extended to five days? Is the state government footing the expenses or somebody else doing so? The government will have to answer all these,” Sinha told a news conference today.
Sinha’s comments came a couple of days after the BJP’s Bengal minder Siddhartha Nath Singh questioned whether the chief minister was looking at Singapore as “a safe haven to park Saradha funds”.
Sinha also questioned the efficacy of holding meetings with potential investors in Singapore, citing Mamata’s last business summit in Mumbai last year.
Before the chief minister’s departure to Singapore, industries and finance minister Amit Mitra had highlighted the sectors the government was keen on seeking investment but had not elaborated on the itinerary.
