Guwahati, Aug. 17: Green Valley Sports Club came back from behind to register a hard earned 2-1 victory over Navajyoti Club in their match of the RG Baruah Guwahati Sports Association Super Division Football League at ground one of Nehru Stadium here today.
Navajyoti’s foreign recruit Nwokwu Michael Okwudici produced a gem of a free kick to put his side up in front with the lead in the 39th minute. Okwudici’s set piece attempt from a few steps outside the box took the aerial curve to leave Green Valley custodian Chiradeep Chattopadhyay with no reply.
Navajyoti came close to increasing their lead early in the 46th minute. However, Lalduhawama’s attempt on target with the Green Valley goalkeeper out of his zone hit the crossbar. Substitute Thomson Langthasa on having stepped into the pitch made his appearance felt within a span of 10 minutes with an equaliser. Skipper Shabir Ali’s well-elevated cross was well utilised by Langthasa through a header in the 70th minute.
Michael Lucky Kelechukwu’s flick of the head was enough to seal victory for his side in the 90th minute. Fayajuddin Shah with the flag kick set the ball up for Shabir Ali, whose header found Kelechukwu who made no mistake in placing the ball in the net.
In the Jibeswar Goswami GSA A Division Football League at ground two, City Police edged past Sports Authority of India Sports Club 2-1. Dwijo Raj Boro put SAI in front in the eighth minute while Pranab Das and Rinku Medhi found the back of the net for City Police in the 11th and 35th minutes respectively.
