England lead by 88

Wormsley: The bowlers once again came to the Indian women’s team’s rescue to check England’s lead on the second day of the one-off Test, here.

Surpassing India’s slender 22-run lead, the Charlotte Edwards-led English team reached 110 for six, at stumps, on a rain-affected Thursday. England were thus 88 ahead with four wickets in hand.

Sarah Taylor was batting on 30 while Jenny Gun was not out on 2.

The hosts lost early wickets but were looking steady at 73 for three when play resumed after rain interruption. But England lost the plot somewhat, losing three more wickets adding just 37 runs.

Jhulan Goswami (2/22) started the rot after scalping opnener Heather Knight for nought and Shikha Pandey (1/22) soon got the other opener Lauren Winfield for 35.

Left-arm spinner Ekta Bisht also picked two wickets (2/15) to give the Mithali Raj-led team some hope in the low-scoring game.

India were skittled out for 114 in their first innings with Nirangana Nagarajan top scoring with 27. England medium-pacer Gun bagged five wickets with Kate Cross picking up three.

Brief scores: England Women 92 & 110/6 (E. Bisht 2/15, J. Goswami 2/22). India Women 114
