New Delhi: Two of India’s World Cup winning captains would head the selection panels for Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna, Arjuna Awards and Dronacharya Award this year.
According to sports ministry sources, Kapil Dev, who led India to the 1983 World Cup triumph, has been nominated the chairman of the selection committee for Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna and Arjuna Awards.
Former hockey captain Ajit Pal Singh will head the panel which will decide the recipient of the Dronacharya Award.
A classy centre half of his time, Ajit Pal was the captain when India defeated Pakistan 2-1 in the World Cup hockey final, in 1975 at Kuala Lumpur.
Among other former champions on the panels are shooter Jaspal Rana, weightlifter Kunjarani Devi and table tennis champion Monalisa Mehta.
Some journalists and sports ministry officials are also in the committees.
