Guwahati, Aug. 7: Sunrise Athletic Club held Food Corporation of India Sports Club to a 1-1 draw in their match of the RG Baruah Guwahati Sports Association Super Division Football League at ground one of Nehru Stadium here today.

Despite better ball possession and frequent inroads along with an initial lead, FCI players failed to clinch full points, thanks to a deserving equaliser in the 43rd minute.

Rakesh Das, snatching the ball from the feet of an opponent player, made his way past three defenders to put his side in the lead in the third minute.

Dasís powerful strike, after making his way into the box, made no mistake in getting the ball past Sunrise custodian Santi Ranjan Das to find the back of the net.

FCI defender Lokesh Singh produced a spectacular goal-line save off an Ifeanyi Nkenchor shot in the 32nd minute. Nigerian recruit Nkenchor managed to dodge the FCI custodian Bitul Khanikar.

However, Singh denied Sunrise its equaliser.

Sunrise ultimately equalised in the 43rd minute through Tapan Kalita who made no mistake in guiding the ball into the net after receiving a fine cross from Baburam Praja in the right flank.

In the second half, with repeated inroads and switching of flanks, FCI players penetrated the Sunrise defence line, though without result.

Sourab Chutia in the right flank provided Abhijit Duarah with a fine pass.

However, Duarahís attempt failed to trouble the Sunrise glovesman in the 52nd minute.

Ifeanyi Nkenchor, having found the ball off a defence lapse, failed to utilise a genuine chance as a forwarding Bitul Khanikar managed to make a fine save in the 89th minute.

Football league: In the Jibeswar Goswami GSA A Division Football League, City Police got the better of Assam Police Blues 1-0. With Pranab Das finding the back of the net in the additional minutes, the Assam cops, who had two consecutive wins in their first two matches, had to face defeat.
