Riflemen enter finals

Dugar shield

Tezpur, Aug. 7: Assam Rifles, Shillong, today tamed Dimapur XI 5-0 in the first semi-final to storm into the final of the 54th Sohanlal Dugar Shield football tournament at Polo Ground here.

Striker M. Kamei put his side in the lead with the help of forward Akum Ao as early as the third minute.

Conceding an early lead, the Dimapur side tried to stage a comeback with concerted efforts.

However, the team was let down by a lack of accuracy in their finishing touch on a couple of occasions.

Akum Ao enhanced the lead with a 30th-minute goal to help Assam Rifles lead 2-0 at breather.

Midfielder Bangkim struck the third goal for the side, converting a set piece from playmaker Akum Ao from the left flank in the 58th minute.

Kamei ruffled the net once again in the 78th minute before Bangkim struck for his second goal off a pass from Ao in the 82nd minute.

Khusen in Argentina

Royal Wahingdoh under-19 player Khusen Manger arrived in Argentina for a 10-day training programme under the watchful eyes of Boca Juniors coaches.

He will also represent the IFB Boca Juniors Football Champs team.

The training, which commenced on August 2, will conclude on August 12.
