Ranchi, Aug. 7: Assembly Speaker Shashank Shekhar Bhokta today sought to know the status of an ambitious project envisaged around two years ago to turn Ajay Barrage into a tourist hotspot in his home constituency Sarath in Deoghar district.
After his repeated prodding failed to get the administrative wheels rolling on the matter, the Speaker convened a meeting with secretaries of tourism, forest and irrigation departments and the development commissioner at his office and asked for reasons that were delaying the proposed Rs 30-crore project.
“I have been writing to the departments concerned about this project for long. But today, I held a meeting and sought to know the status of the project, which will generate revenues and create employment in the area,” Bhokta said after the hour-long meeting.
During the meeting, tourism secretary Vishnu Kumar informed the Speaker that two instalments — Rs 1 crore and Rs 2.30 crore — were released to the Deoghar administration last week to initiate work on the project.
He also informed that a team comprising officials of the three departments would visit the site to finalise a roadmap for development of the barrage on the river Ajay.
