GTC blank City Police

- Nabin Chawaria’s header proves to be turning point of game

Guwahati, Aug. 3: Gauhati Town Club registered their second consecutive win in the Jibeswar Goswami Guwahati Sports Association A-Division Football League, defeating City Police by a solitary goal at Nehru Stadium here today.

In an evenly-contested match, Nabin Chawaria’s well-guided header turned out to be the decider.

Seasoned campaigner of GTC Sanjeeva Rongpi’s powerful attempt was well saved by City Police custodian Prabin Medhi in the 25th minute.

City Police players came close to finding the net in the 27th minute. However, Hrishikesh Medhi’s strike missed the target by a whisker. GTC glovesman Santanu Barman displayed fine goal-keeping sense by punching the ball away to safety after a well-angled shot from Sunil Murmu.

Nabin Chawaria made no mistake in finding the back of the net after a well-taken corner by Lenin Angom found him in the 38th minute. Chawaria’s fine flick of the head left the City Police custodian helpless.

In the second half, City Police took up a more offensive strategy. On being awarded a free kick a few steps outside the box, Sanjeeva Rongpi’s shot was well-fisted by Prabin Medhi for a corner in the 47th minute.

Rahul Boro decided to have a go from outside the box, which went over the crossbar in the 67th minute. Boro came close to equalising. However, GTC glovesman Santanu Barman came to his side’s rescue by diving to his left in the 79th minute.
