The All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Patna, has finally launched its much-awaited online registration facility, something that even its Delhi campus cannot boast of.

The facility was launched towards the end of July but the hospital administration claims very few people know of it.

AIIMS Patna director G.K. Singh said those looking for online registration for treatment at AIIMS-Patna need to download an application on their Android mobile phones from AIIMS Patna’s website and follow certain processes specified on the website.

The Telegraph had reported in its August 8, 2013, edition that the facility would start from January or February this year.

The AIIMS Patna administration said it took longer to implement the same because of some technical problems that had to be looked into.

The state government launched online registration facility for outpatient departments of primary health centres and district hospitals in February.

But the facility is not available in other government healthcare institutions, including medical college hospitals yet. “Our goal is to provide patients hassle-free service and online registration facility is one of the endeavours which would help us achieve this. We have taken the decision, foreseeing a huge rush at our outdoor and indoor departments when all kinds of treatment are started at the hospital,” said AIIMS-Patna director G.K. Singh.

“The online registration facility would help prevent chaos because of heavy rush of patients at the hospital,” he further said.

They won’t be doing away with manual registration facility, though. “Not every person can own an Android mobile phone. So, we have decided to continue with the manual registration facility as well,” Singh said.

The steps for registering online are available on the AIIMS-Patna website (refer below). “Anybody can go through it to avail online registration facility,” Singh said.

He agreed the online registration facility needs upgradation.

“There is no link yet for credit cards by which patients can deposit treatment fee at the time when they go for online registration. But we are contemplating a link for this. There are some technical problems, which would be sorted out soon,” he said.

So how can one get one’s name registered online for treatment at AIIMS Patna?

Open the AIIMS Patna website — www.aiimspatna.org — on your mobile and download the Android application link

While the download is going on, a link called “unknown source” would surface. Click on it

After installing, the user would be asked for username and password

Key in aiimspatna as username and aiimspatna123 as password

Click on the New Patient option and fill in the details sought

One can send patient’s photograph, but that is optional

Click on the “save” option

The user would then get an ID, which has to be quoted at the registration counter to get a registration slip.
