Alliance flights to resume

Silchar, Aug. 2: The Calcutta-Silchar-Guwahati-Imphal daily flights, which were scrapped by Alliance Air from June 1 last, will resume from October 1 simultaneously with the six-month suspension of the train service between the Silchar and Lumding junction.

The railway scheme involves laying broad-gauge tracks between the junctions.

This was disclosed last night by the Congress Lok Sabha MP from Silchar, Sushmita Dev, after she met Union civil aviation minister Ashok Gajapathi Raju in New Delhi.

Dev had appealed for the resumption of this vital air link. She said Alliance Air would also start the short-haul three-days-a-week ATR flights between Calcutta-Silchar-Tezpur-Silchar-Calcutta from 10 August on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
