Calcutta: Ajinkya Rahane, who has been so far the most consistent Indian player in the ongoing tour of India, gained nine places in the ICC rankings for Test batsmen to be placed at a career-best 26th position.
Cheteshwar Pujara slipped a couple of places to 10th but remained the best-placed Indian batsman. Virat Kohli, who has been out of form for quite some time, dropped one spot to be 15th in the latest rankings issued on Friday.
He now trails second-ranked Kumar Sangakkara by 11 ratings points, while AB de Villiers is sitting on top of the tree on 899 ratings points.
The Indian bowlers were, however, slightly better off with Ravindra Jadeja and Bhuvneshwar Kumar improving their rankings. After gaining three places, Jadeja is now 25th while Bhuvneshwar is now in 32nd after rising two places.
