Yaitomba retains badminton title

Imphal, Aug. 1: Shuttler I. Yaitomba retained the menís singles title of the 7th Imphal West Badminton Championship played at MBA Indoor Hall, D.M. College campus.

Yaitomba defeated H. Punshiba in the final 21-12, 21-19 to complete a hat-trick of triumphs.

In the menís doubles category, Punshiba paired with his brother H. Yaiphaba to claim the championís title defeating Ch. Naoba and Rk. Devjit 19-21, 21-16, 21-15.

In the menís doubles (above 40), the pair of K. Jadumani and L. Gitaranjan got the better of H. Jugin and Rk. Robinson 21-19, 21-13 for the title. In the menís singles (above 40) M. Pratap got the better of S. Jatra by 22-20, 21-10 points. In the menís singles (above 50), S.M. Loken overcame S. Jatra 21-15, 17-21, 21-11.

Womenís singles title winner N. Angita Devi also went on to claim the girlsí under-17 and under-19 events as well.

Molestation inquiry: The women harrassment cell of SAI NERC, Imphal, has started its inquiry into the alleged sexual harassment of five girl athletes by their coach.

The inquiry began two days back after director of personnel, SAI New Delhi, suspended coach O. Chaoba Singh.

Other than the officials of the cell, the inquiry committee also included NGO representative M. Sabita Devi of the Women Action Development.

It has been learnt that the inquiry is likely to be completed within 10-15 days, according to a source.
