Maoist held for rail track explosion

Gaya, July 30: An alleged Maoist Siddharth Yadav alias Vikas was arrested in connection with the derailment of pilot engine of Bhubaneswar-New Delhi Rajdhani Express late in the evening of July 22 owing to blasts on the tracks.

Aurangabad superintendent of police (SP) Upendra Kumar Sharma told The Telegraph that Vikas has been arrested from the Goh area in the district. He is one of the eight Maoists made named accused in the FIR lodged with Rafiganj police station on July 23 after the blasts leading to the derailment.

Vikas had been heading Maoist activities in Goh and other areas of Aurangabad district after the arrest of another rebel Kariman Yadav. Police are interrogating the arrested Naxalite to ascertain his crime record after which he would be forwarded to jail, the SP said.

The pilot engine had got derailed as Maoists had triggered blast under the tracks on the Up line between Rafiganj and Ismailpur stations on Gaya-Mughalsarai rail section of East Central Railway.

Owing to the explosion, the tracks had got damaged and a nearly four-feet ditch was created leading to the derailment of the pilot engine of Rajdhani Express. The Bhubaneswar-New Delhi Rajdhani Express besides, two other Rajdhanis Howrah-New Delhi and Sealdah-New Delhi and Jodhpur-Howrah Express had a narrow escape on the fateful night of July 22.
