Truck injures three

- Vehicle rolls over divider on flyover after driver flees

Guwahati July 29: A truck this evening injured three persons in three vehicles on the Chandmari flyover.

The first victim, a motorcyclist, Raju Sikdar, 23, was seriously injured after the truck, bearing registration number no. AS 12C 8269 and travelling towards Chandmari from Commerce College, collided with the motorcycle (AS 01 AW 8720) on the flyover.

According to Dilip Kalita, a bystander who called 108 to have Sikdar moved to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital, the truck driver then panicked and fled. Following this, the unmanned truck rolled down the flyover and hit and crossed the divider after which it turned over on the other side of the flyover.

A Maruti car (no. AS01AF 8970) and a motorcycle (AS01AY 8979) that were moving on that side then hit the truck following which the driver of the Maruti and the motorcyclist, too, suffered minor injuries. The serial accidents occurred around 11 pm, police said.

According to police sources at the Chandmari police station, in the first case it the motorcycle that was speeding lost control and hit the truck from behind in the middle of the flyover. “It was then that the driver of the truck may have panicked and fled,” the police said.

Doctors at GMCH said Sikdar, who lives in the Jyoti Nagar area, had suffered a head injury though the severity wasn’t immediately known.
