Website sleeps over name

The health department website mentions chief minister Jitan Ram Manjhi as the minister in-charge, almost two months after Ramdhani Singh took over the post.

According to the website, www.health.bih.nic.in, Sanjay Kumar Singh is the present health secretary in place of Anand Kishore. Even senior health officials were blissfully unaware of this when The Telegraph spoke to them on Sunday. Asked who was responsible for maintaining the website, they pointed at different people.

Ramdhani was made a minister in the Manjhi government on June 2.

Principal secretary, health, Deepak Kumar attributed the absence of an information technology (IT) manager in the department for the past few months as the reason why the department website was not updated.

“Our department’s IT manager has been transferred to the labour department a few months ago. We would ask our new IT manager to update the website,” he said.

The department’s additional secretary-cum-spokesperson, Rajendra Prasad Ojha, said: “National Informatics Centre looks after the website and is to be blamed for the mistake. We have sent the requisition for correcting the names of officials on the website but they have still not updated the information. We can’t do anything because NIC has the password to the website and only they can amend the mistakes.”

Ojha claimed that Ramdhani’s name must have a mention in the State Health Society, Bihar, website and asked this correspondent to check its website.

However, on checking the website, this correspondent found no mention of Singh’s name or his picture. It, too, showed chief minister Jitan Ram Manjhi as heading the society.

Names of other newly inducted ministers in the Manjhi ministry, including that of Rajeev Ranjan Singh, Ramlakhan Ram, Samrat Choudhary, Naushad Alam, Jay Kumar Singh, Javed Iqbal Ansari, Ranju Geeta and Baidyanath Sahni among others, have been mentioned on the websites of their respective departments.

When Ramdhani was asked about the glaring error on the department website, he denied knowledge. “Everybody knows that I am the health minister. Even the Assembly register mentions my name as health minister. Through newspaper articles, it must be clear to people that I am the new health minister. So what’s the point if the department website doesn’t have my name?” said Singh.

Ramdhani’s personal secretary Sridhar Pandey, however, claimed that the minister was aware of the fact. “We know about this and we have forwarded the file to the authority concerned much earlier,” said Pandey.
