Khetri edges past Citizen

Imphal, July 25: Khetri Iril Mapal Youth Club posted a 4-3 goal win over Citizen Club in the opening match of the Maharajkumar Ghanendrajit Memorial Super Division Football League, 2014 at Artificial Turf, Khuman Lampak sports complex, today.

Khetri Iril Mapal started off on a positive note with M. Romi Singh finding the net in the fourth minute. Y. Raj Saha consolidated in the 29th minute.

Citizen Club was pushed on to the back foot in the second half.

The Khetri Iril Mapal team made another breakthrough in the 74th minute with M. Romi Singh heading home his teamís third goal off a cross from the right flank. Md Rohit Hussain slammed home Khetri Iril Mapalís fourth goal in the 75th minute.

Citizen Club player Seikh Azar Chisty got past two defenders to shoot home his teamís first goal in the 76th minute.

Boosted by the success, Citizen Club scored two quick goals through M. Chinglemba in the 78th minute and Seikh Azar Chisty in the 80th minute

However, the goals could not ensure them a victory.

Railway TT: E. Prabhakaran of Southern Railway and Takeme Sarkar of hosts NF Railway won the men and womenís singles titles respectively in the 62nd All-India Railway table tennis Championship that concluded in Guwahati today.

Prabhakaran beat Anirban Nandi of South Eastern Railway 11-7, 8-11, 11-7, 12-10, 8-11, 12-10 while Sarkar defeated Rupsa Bhattacharyya of Metro Railway 11-8, 11-9, 7-11, 7-11, 3-11, 11-8, 11-7 in the finals.

Western Railway and South Eastern Railway teams won the menís and womenís titles respectively in the team events, which concluded on Wednesday.
