New Delhi, July 25: The Supreme Court today appointed Delhi’s additional sessions judge Bharat Parashar as the special judge in the coal scam case.
The apex court also appointed senior counsel R.S. Cheema as special public prosecutor in the case.
Cheema was appointed as the special public prosecutor after senior counsel Gopal Subramanium declined to accept the post citing personal commitments.
The apex court passed the order on two PILs filed by advocate Manohar Lal Sharma and the common cause represented by advocates Prashant Bhushan and Pranav Sachdeva.
The petitioners have sought cancellation of the controversial allocation of coal blocks to 169 companies between 1993 and 2010 that reportedly cost the exchequer a loss of crores.
