Arathoon gets time

Gerry Arathoon, the suspended secretary and chief executive of the Council for Indian School Certificate Examinations, has sought another 15 days to reply to the chargesheet issued against him for allegedly promoting his wifeís books without the councilís consent.

Arathoon was supposed to send his reply by Thursday. ďWe received an appeal from Arathoon on Friday stating that he needs another 15 days to respond to the chargesheet. His petition has been accepted,Ē council chairman Father Jose Aikara said.

The councilís rules make it mandatory for every official to take the authoritiesí approval before allowing sales of a textbook written by him/her or his/her relative.

According to the council, Arathoon had not taken permission before promoting two books written by his wife Anita.
