Mumbai, July 24: A case of rape and molestation has been registered against a senior IPS officer in Mumbai police’s civil rights cell on the complaint of a model.
The police said they were “gathering evidence” against Sunil Paraskar, deputy inspector-general (protection of civil rights unit), and the 57-year-old had not been arrested yet.
The case against Paraskar was lodged after the model approached city police chief Rakesh Maria yesterday and the force’s women’s cell conducted a preliminary inquiry.
In her complaint, the 25-year-old alleged that she was raped “on several occasions” last year when she used to visit Paraskar for some work. The officer was then additional commissioner (north).
“Investigation of the case has been taken up by the crimes against women cell. Mumbai police will take steps to ensure fair investigation of the case,” the police said in a statement. Paraskar was not available for comment.
The model has featured in some TV ads and is working in a Bollywood film for the first time, PTI said.
