Victory overcome Highland

Imphal, July 23: Victory High School, Thoubal thrashed Highland Academy, Kangpokpi by 8-0 goals to sail into the final of the State-Level Under-17 Girls’ Subroto Mukherjee Football Tournament, 2014 played on artificial turf, Khuman Lampak Sports Complex.

Victory player H. Daya Devi ransacked the opponent’s defence to netseven goals to pave her team’s mammoth victory en route to the final.

Daya Devi came up with the opening goal in the seventh minute and continuted her scoring spree, striking three more goals in a spate of 13 minutes to complete her hattrick in the first half itself.

Continuing the unrelenting tirade against its opponent, Victory High School consolidated through M. Devikarni in the 38th minute. Daya Devi struck three more goals for the complete rout of the Highland girls.

In the second semi-final, Poireikhongjin High School, Imphal East, prevailed upon Radhamadhap Sanskrit Vidyalaya, Bishnupur by 2-1 goals during penalty shootout to move into the semi-final. Goalless in the stipulated time of play, defending champions Radhamadhap Sanskrit team had to made a sad exit. For Poireikhongjin, Sultana and Margaret managed to find the net while T. Tani and Kashmina missed the mark. Radhamadhap Sanskrit Vidyalaya team could manage to put in one goal from Hemolata Devi while four of her teammates failed to convert theirs kicks. Victory High School, Thoubal, will meet Poireikhongjin High School, Imphal East, in the final tomorrow.
