London: Mike Brearley, a former England captain with iconic status, is “delighted” that Sourav Ganguly will soon be a colleague on the MCC’s World Cricket Committee.
Brearley is the Committee’s chairman.
“I’m delighted that Sourav comes on board in October (replacing another former India captain, Anil Kumble)... He’s knowledgeable and is sharp,” Brearley told The Telegraph, at Lord’s, on Sunday.
Brearley added: “Among other things, I’m looking forward to interacting with Sourav on anti-corruption matters...
“I’m aware that Sourav is on the Supreme Court-appointed Justice (Mukul) Mudgal probe panel and, barring anything confidential, he should be able to provide an interesting perspective...
“Anti-corruption, as you know, is a big issue and one of the challenges facing cricket in keeping it clean.”
Brearley and Sourav spoke to each other for around 10 minutes during the day’s lunch break.
Come October and the Committee will feature some other new faces as well: Ricky Ponting taking Steve Waugh’s place and Ramiz Raja replacing Majid Khan.
Former India captain Rahul Dravid, incidentally, is already on the Committee which next meets in Sri Lanka.
