Calcutta: Sourav Ganguly’s nomination for the post of Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) joint secretary was filed on Friday by Barisha Sporting Club.
Sourav will come in place of Sujan Mukherjee, whose term ends at the end of this month.
The former India captain is in London for media commitments, so doubt over his presence at the annual general meeting on July 27.
“We aren’t ruling out his presence at the AGM, but as of now, he hasn’t yet told us whether he will attend it or not,” Barisha president Arup Chatterjee said.
Although CAB president Jagmohan Dalmiya declined to elaborate on Sourav’s nomination for joint secretary’s post — since the deadline for filing nomination papers is 4 pm on Saturday — he said it’s good for the sport if cricketers come into administration.
Interestingly, Bengal captain Laxmi Ratan Shukla, too, will be attending the AGM as a representative of Salkia Friends Association. “This will be my first AGM… I’m going there just to get a feel of things and to gain some experience.
“Being a resident of Howrah, which is very close to Salkia, I would certainly like to contribute for the club,” Shukla said.
Meanwhile, Samar Paul, a former joint secretary and a one-time Dalmiya rival, has been drafted in as one of the vice-presidents alongside Amiya Kumar Auddy, Sankar Nath Bagchi and Sudip Biswas.
Sibaji Dutta comes in place of the deceased Samar Kar in the board of trustees.
