Sunny’s interim role ends

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday relieved Sunil Gavaskar as the interim BCCI president (for IPL VII) and said he was free to pursue other assignments including his commentary commitments.

A bench of Justices TS Thakur and Ibrahim Kalifullah passed the order on an application moved by Gavaskar seeking clarification on his continuation as this year’s IPL tourney had already concluded.

Modifying its March 28, order the bench said: “Now that the IPL VII had concluded, there is no reason why Sri Sunil Gavaskar can’t be relieved of his assignment as interim president of the BCCI so as to enable him take up any other assignment including the role of commentator.”

On March 28, the apex court had appointed Gavaskar as interim president of BCCI.
