NFR make it to final

Guwahati, July 17: Northeast Frontier Railway Sports Club will lock horns with Assam State Electricity Board Sports Club in the final of the Premier Agro Bio-Tech 10th N.N. Bhattacharya Knockout Football Tournament.

The railmen got the better of City Police 2-1 in the second semi-final on a muddy turf at Nehru Stadium here today. NF Railway players dominated the proceedings right from the start although the policemen had their share of chances.

The railmen found their much-needed lead in the additional minutes of the first half through a fine goal by Sasanka Chanda.

He displayed exemplary skill to take the ball inside the box and finally take a powerful strike that left Luchan Saikia with no reply.

With the referee signalling the start of the second half, NF Railway didnít waste much time in increasing their lead in the 48th minute.

On having received a free kick from around 25 yards, Sasanka ensured his brace with a fine strike which took an aerial curl to find the back of the net with ease.

Despite having least opportunities to make inroads into the NF Railway territory, substitute Ajoy Kr Basumataryís firmly struck shot from around 40 yards found the net with ease as the railway custodian had no option but to witness the ball finding the target in the 59th minute.
