Priyana, Anurag enter semis

Guwahati, July 16: Priyana Kalita and Anurag Buragohain of Assam and Mingkhi Talom of Arunachal Pradesh secured berths in the semi-finals of their respective singles events in the OIL-AITA Super Series Tennis Championship under way at the All Assam Tennis Association Complex here.

In the quarter-finals played today, Priyana defeated Bhakti Parwani of Gujarat 7-5, 6-2 to enter the under-16 semis.

She joined Neeru of Haryana, Yuvranee Banerjee of Bengal and Sarah Dev of Punjab in the round of four. In the round of eight, Neeru eased past Bhakti Shah of Andhra Pradesh 6-0, 6-1, Yuvranee beat local girl Tanisha Kashyap 6-3, 6-2 and Sarah made short work of Anaya Thorat (Maharashtra) 6-3, 6-0.

Anurag entered the boys’ under-12 singles semi-finals, getting the better of Girish Chougule of Maharashtra 6-0, 6-3. In the other quarter-finals encounters, Javia Dev of Gujarat defeated Karnataka opponent Nikhil Niranjan 6-2, 6-1, Divesh Gahlot of Haryana overcame V.M. Sandeep of Tamil Nadu 6-7 (6), 6-4, 6-3 and Sandesh Kantimahanti (Karnataka) prevailed over Dhruv Tangri of Punjab 6-2, 6-4.

In the boys’ under-16 singles quarter-finals, Mingkhi prevailed over Jharkhand boy Aman Deo 6-4, 6-2 while Yugal Bansal of Delhi beat Armaan Bhatia of Maharashtra 6-4, 6-2, Uttarakhand boy Mrityunjay Badola overcame Arghya Das of Bengal 6-0, 1-6, 7-5 and Paras Dahiya of Haryana got the better of D. Suresh (Tamil Nadu) 7-6 (5), 4-6, 6-1.
