Ranchi, July 16: A CPI(Maoist) member, who has close ties with the outfit’s wanted zonal commander Kundan Pahan, and a supporter were arrested from Mankidih forests, around 70km from the Ranchi district headquarters, in the wee hours of today.
Bablu Munda (25) and Mansingh Munda (32), a para-teacher who gave logistic support to Maoists, were huddled in a meeting with fellow rebels when security personnel engaged in anti-Naxalite operations raided the forests in the Tamar police station area. Both Bablu and Mansingh hail from Jorgo Tola in Khunti.
Besides arms and ammunition, two motorbikes, a receipt booklet of Maoist frontal organisation Krantikari Kisan Committee and a few Naxalite literatures were recovered from the duo.
Ranchi SSP Prabhat Kumar said: “A joint team of district police and two companies of CRPF reached the forest around 1am on the basis of a tip-off that Pahan had been noticed in Mankidih forests. He had apparently called a meeting to chalk out strategies to disrupt the forthcoming Assembly elections.”
As the personnel reached the spot, the Maoists escaped taking advantage of darkness and the dense forest cover. However, Bablu and Mansingh were caught after a chase.
“Bablu used to help Pahan in recruitment of youths in CPI(Maoist), while Mansingh collected levy from contractors and businessmen on the behalf of rebels,” the SSP said.
