Manipur league gets 12 teams

Imphal, July 13: The ninth Manipur State League 2014, organised by the All-Manipur Football Association, is scheduled to begin from August 18.

The association, in a memorandum said, “There will be a total of 12 teams. Team entry and submission of registration will be received till July 31.”

The managers’ meeting will be held on August 3.

The 12 teams in the fray are North Imphal Sporting Association, Southern Sporting Union, Tiddim Road Athletic Union, United Sporting Association, North Eastern Re-organising and Cultural Association, Tiddim Road Unique Gamy Players Union, Manipur Police Sports Club, Anouba Imagi Mangal and Zomi Football Club.

The three new entrants are Nambul Mapal Cultural Organisation, FC Khanglai and Keinou Library and Sporting Association.

NISA was the champion team of the eighth MSL, while Southern Sporting Union was the runners-up team. Kuki Sporting Association got relegated because of a poor show.

AMFA general secretary L. Ranjit Roy said the format of the game would remain unchanged with all the teams exposed to league rounds and then the top eight teams will be selected. The remaining four teams will be exposed to knockout rounds and the winner will join the eight teams for the knockout rounds to determine the overall winner.

Kickboxing

The Kickboxing Association of Assam will host the 20th National Championship of the Indian Kickboxing Organisation at Nabin Chandra Bordoloi Indoor Stadium here from August 18 to 21.

Nearly 2,000 players and officials from 20 states are expected to participate in the meet.
