Modi shuffles babus

New Delhi, July 13 (PTI): Rakesh Garg has been appointed telecommunications secretary and Jugal Kishore Mohapatra fertilisers secretary, in a shuffle of bureaucrats cleared yesterday by the appointments committee of cabinet led by Narendra Modi.

Enforcement director Rajan S. Katoch has been named heavy industry secretary in place of Sutanu Behuria, who retires on July 31.

The 1979-batch IAS officer of the Madhya Pradesh cadre will also continue to hold charge as enforcement director for six months or till the appointment of a regular incumbent, a government order said.

Sanjay Kothari, who is now secretary in the departments of administrative reforms and public grievances and pensions and pensioners’ welfare, is moving to the department of personnel and training. The 1978-batch Haryana cadre officer will succeed Syamal Kumar Sarkar, who too retires this month-end.

Garg, a 1980-batch IAS officer of the Uttar Pradesh cadre, comes as telecom secretary in place of M.F. Farooqui, who has retired. Garg is at present serving in the UP cadre.

Mohapatara, a 1979-batch Odisha cadre officer who too is posted in his home state, succeeds Shaktikanta Das. Das, a 1980-batch officer of the Tamil Nadu cadre, was earlier appointed revenue secretary.
